Make-the-switch checklist

Congratulations! You’re here because you’re ready to take the first step toward the beginning of your best financial life. This step-by-step checklist will help you track your progress while making your account with us your primary checking account.

Once you’re ready, stop using the account you want to close.

This means that you should stop writing checks, paying bills or initiating any other payments and using your ATM/debit card to allow all transactions to clear and a final balance to be determined.

Set up or switch your direct deposit(s) to your account with us.

Notify your employer or other sources that deposit funds into your old account that your new primary bank account.

To set up direct deposit to your account with us, simply:

  • Download the direct deposit form.
  • Enter your account number with us, which can be found either in our mobile app or on your account statement.
  • Complete the rest of the form and provide it to your employer’s payroll department for processing, or to whomever is making the deposit to your account.

Transfer any automatic or recurring payments from your old bank account to your account with us.

This might include tuition payments, utility or credit card payments, gym memberships, etc. To do this, we recommend contacting the payee and notifying them of the change in account information.

Keep your old account open and funded with enough funds to cover any automatic or recurring transactions that have not yet been redirected to your account with us.

That way, you can confirm that all of your payments were set up correctly while avoiding any potential late fees. Once all checks, automatic deposits/withdrawals and recurring payments have cleared and you have transferred these payments to your account with us, you are ready to close your old checking account.

If you have not done so already, contact your other bank and let them know that you wish to close your account.

If there is anything more you need to do in order for them to fulfill your request, they will let you know at this time, as well as what the next steps are to close the account.
